History buffs, bike nerds, and adventure junkies unite! On October 14th, join us for the annual bike ride around the oldest federal monuments, the DC Boundary stones.
As always, the ride will be sponsored by Boundary Stone DC! Amazing partners Phoenix Bikes and Gearin’ Up Bicycles are back in the saddle again this year, along with two new community bike shop partners, Bikes for the World and VĂ©loCity Bicycle Cooperative. And don’t worry, DC Brau Brewing Company beer will be flowing at the after party!
The basics:
You can ride 1, 2, 3 or all 4 sides of the DC perimeter (if you do the whole thing, it’s about 60 miles – add the ride back to Boundary Stone, and it’s a metric century ride!). Here is the electronic cue sheet: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/17131594
This is a self-paced ride. At the beginning people depart in large groups, but pretty soon split off into smaller riding groups based on pace, distance, and interest in actually stopping to see the stones.
It is also an unsupported ride. Our community bike shop partners will be doing checks and minor repairs at the start and at a few rest stops along the way, but you should be prepared with everything you might need along the way: ID & cash, pump and spare tube/ patch kit, etc. Most of the ride is on regular roads, which means stopping at lights, avoiding potholes, and dealing with unpredictable drivers. There will also be some off-roading!! Portions of the route are on trails, gravel, and grass, and might even involve crossing a small stream. (Sounds like fun, right?!!)
Whether this is your 1st or your 5th ride, get ready for an incredible day!
